Okay, I poked a little bit of fun at contemporary services in my previous posts. So all in the cause of fairness, I’m posting an example of a “traditional” church experience—one of my favorite Mr. Bean episodes. This is actually only a portion of a longer episode that involved Mr. Bean attempting to navigate through a stuffy church service. I edited out the earlier portion that simply depicted him attempting to stay awake. What I am posting is more appropriate in illustrating the experience that many have in our typically closed-system worship experiences—not knowing when to sit and when to stand, not knowing the hymns, and ultimately knowing you’re the recipient of disapproving stares whenever you do something that causes you to stick out as a stranger.
