Zach Williams’ song “Chain Breaker” has been on the playlist in our celebration gatherings a couple of times over the past months. I was surfing YouTube recordings of the song in order to write out lyrics and chords for the band and our singers, and I stumbled on the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir’s version of the song. It starts conventionally enough, with a soloist and small ensemble singing the verses and first couple of choruses. But then the soloist begins to challenge everyone in the gathering . . . “if you believe it; if you receive it; if you can feel it; SOMEBODY TESTIFY!” And when the full choir jumps in with its wall of sound on the final choruses, it makes my hair stand up on end.
The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir inspires me in so many ways . . . but I’ll mention only one thing here. As you see the cameras panning through the group as they sing, take a look at the kaleidoscope of colors and ethnicities. To me, this is what I imagine our heavenly existence will look like.
